Rest Your Wings: A Morning in My Garden

Some mornings, you wake up and move through your routine without expecting much.

Today wasn’t one of those mornings.

The sun had finally returned after days of rain, and I stepped into my garden just to check on my plants… but what I found was a message for my spirit.

I noticed the cucumbers had held on strong, strawberries were done for the season, and the tomatoes had slowed.

I picked a few ready okra, removed bell peppers past their prime, and carried them to the compost bin.

Before that, I spotted a butterfly on the ground, her wings barely moving. She wasn’t rushing anywhere — just resting. I gently lifted her onto some dry cardboard in the sun, whispering, “Rest your wings, friend.” I didn’t take a picture — I just stood there and held space for her, knowing in my spirit that this moment mattered.

By the time I returned from the garden, she was ready — and she flew away.

Then, the cardinal came. Bright red, turning his head to watch me, moving from my garden to the compost bin, and finally to the corner of the yard… right where I’ve been planning to plant my fall raised beds.

And just when I thought the morning’s messages were complete, I stepped back outside later to take one more photo. That’s when I heard the soft hum — a hummingbird hovering in the branches above my patio.

She paused just long enough for me to lift my camera and click once before she moved on. It felt like her way of saying,

“Stay light, keep moving, and savor the sweet things.”

Some will say it’s coincidence, but I believe God speaks to me through nature. The butterfly reminded me that rest is part of renewal. The cardinal reminded me to keep preparing the space for what’s coming.

And like my garden, Xiomara is in her own season of rest and renewal — getting ready to bloom again with a new look and a fresh restock.

I don’t know what your season looks like, sis, but maybe today is your reminder to rest your wings, breathe deep, and trust that your bloom is coming.

Just like the butterfly, your moment of stillness is part of your renewal - and just like the garden, you're being prepared for what's next.
